Im planning to get a bicycle to go to town and city riding in the province (about 300 miles long). have not yet decided if Im going to get a road bike (expensive) or bike (cheaper) ..

Fixie are not suitable for long distances at all. If you do not want a race bike cross use at least one speed - that freewheels. To recommend to several bike speed away though.
