is too heavy for normal periods?

I am 16 and I had my period about three and a half years now, but year after I started that really started getting heavy. which is so heavy that I must change my pad / (PAD heavy flow) every hour. even at night, I have become aware from time to change three or four. is bad because i play sports and practice of almost three hours with both a break so it is really difficult. Is this normal? What I do, because I think it should be so heavy?
